Experience:
Licensed, since 1984. Continuing education has included various types of educational classes in: Sports, Ayurvedic, Myofacial, Cranial-Sacral, Somatics stretch, Deep Tissue, Acupressure, Qi-gong, Polarity Therapy, Ortho-Bionomy, etc. Oregon requires LMTs to maintain continuing education hours of approximately 12 hours/ year. Given the years I've been in practice, I have learned techniques in many areas and taken additional study relative to personal interests (health and science related) beyond massage techniques.
Specifically, I have worked with patients: post- accident, injury, pre & post-surgery, emotional trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, to gain relaxation, pre/post sports training/events, dietary concerns, repetitive motion, etc.
I am a Healer, energy worker. I partner toward your integrating body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Energy work definition: "techniques originating from ancient traditions and recent discoveries that are used to manipulate the bioenergy of the patient with the goal of restoring harmony or removing blockages from within the body. I've trained in Healing Touch, some Reiki, studied Barbara Brennan's "Hands of Light" (which was the first book that helped me identify my gift in working with and realizing my empath of sensing the discord in people's bodies), polarity therapy, visualization techniques, meditation, and breathwork.
While providing massage, I may utilize training in breathing (breath work), visualization (Where would you go if you were on vacation?), and added comforts such as hot towels & heated stones, while providing a level of quiet that encourages inner awareness. My intention is to "be of service" in the greater sense of providing a safe space.
I am detail-oriented, so particularly address areas of one's body that have patterns related to holding stress. I allow my hands to be guided as I work. When indicated, I request feedback so I can better match your "sense of touch" with the pressure or technique I am using during the massage. I do possess a capacity of empathy which often leads me to identify areas of bodily stress, where I can focus to gain your release.
Unsolicited statements from clients:
" You provide such attention to detail, good listener, paying attention to my needs and stress, calm atmosphere, and best hands west of the Mississippi!".
" What I like most: When I arrive at the door. What I like least: When you walk out of the massage room door, at the end".
"You have Intuitiveness and perfect touch".
Process of Practice and Evolving:
Began working in a Chiropractic office (as massage therapist and Chiropractic assistant). 3 years.
Moved into a salon environment: Shears Ahead I and II. 2 years.
Partnered to create a space: Healing Hearts Massage Clinic, 4 years late 1980's. (which is still there, obviously with other practitioners).
Created a 2200 square foot massage clinic: Enchantment, A Place for Well-Being 1990. (almost 4 years).
Downsized back into Private Practice (less stress), working from a home office and then Retail space: Health Talks, LLC.
Above locations were all in SW Portland, Oregon.
I left full-time private practice in 2008 when I moved to The Dalles, Oregon to utilize Certifications in Wellness and Holistic Health Consulting. I practiced massage part-time.
June, 2013 I returned to Portland to assist my brother who was going through a health challenge. He's improved; and I have returned to what I love and feel drawn to do: utilize the gift of healing to help others balance and improve their physical and emotional well-being; mental outlook, and aura clearing.
If you desire a massage, please give me the opportunity to provide it.
